Eugene Talmadge Lewis Lincolnton, GA Death, Obituary: Legendary Fiddle Player Eugene Talmadge Lewis Passes Away at 91

Mr. Eugene Talmadge Lewis, age 91, peacefully departed this life on Friday, March 13, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, music, family devotion, and community service. Born in Lincolnton, Georgia, to the late Pauline Holloway Lewis and James Roy “Pop” Lewis, he was the sixth of eight siblings raised in a close-knit family in the town they cherished deeply. Those early years in Lincolnton helped shape the values of hard work, compassion, and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1954 and went on to live a life marked by purpose and meaningful contributions.

Mr. Lewis was widely known for his musical talent and deep love for gospel bluegrass music. As a gifted fiddle player, he proudly performed in his family’s band, which later gained regional recognition as the legendary Lewis Family. Through their music and strong faith, the family brought joy, inspiration, and spiritual encouragement to countless audiences. Music was not simply a hobby for Mr. Lewis—it was an expression of faith, heritage, and connection with others.

Later in life, Mr. Lewis transitioned from the music industry to entrepreneurship. With determination and vision, he founded Talmadge Lewis Motors, building the business through dedication and hard work. His efforts eventually expanded into Lewis Bus Line, further reflecting his commitment to serving his community and providing opportunities for others. His business success was a testament to his perseverance, integrity, and leadership.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lewis was known for his deep compassion for animals. He spent countless hours feeding stray cats and rescuing animals in need. Friends and family often recalled the unusual animals he once brought home to care for—including an owl, a skunk, and even an armadillo—demonstrating his gentle spirit and kindness toward all living creatures.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Polly Copsey and Miggie Lewis; and his brothers, Wallace Lewis and Mosley Lewis.

Mr. Lewis leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cornelia Lagroon Lewis; his sons, Joey Lewis (Cheryl), Mike Lewis (Joy), and Stan Lewis; and his beloved grandsons, Joshua and Jacob. He is also survived by his brothers, Roy Lewis (Bonnie) and Esley Lewis (Evelyn); his sister, Janis Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives he touched.

Mr. Lewis will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for music, compassion for animals, and the enduring example he set through his kindness and dedication. His legacy will continue to live on in the many lives he inspired and the family he loved so deeply.
