It is with profound sadness that the Fredericton Fire Department announces the Line of Duty Death of retired Captain Ken “Kenny” Jenkins, who passed away in the early morning hours of March 13, 2026, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Captain Jenkins dedicated many years of his life to protecting and serving the community of Fredericton as a firefighter, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the citizens he served. Known for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty, Ken exemplified the very best qualities of the fire service. His leadership, experience, and steady presence made a lasting impact on the department and on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Even after his retirement in December 2020, Captain Jenkins remained deeply connected to the fire service and to the community he served so faithfully. His passion for helping others and his pride in the profession never diminished. Ken’s dedication extended far beyond the fire hall, reflecting a lifetime of service, compassion, and quiet strength.
WorkSafeNB has formally recognized Captain Jenkins’ illness as a workplace-related occupational disease, acknowledging the risks and sacrifices that firefighters face in the line of duty. In recognition of this, his passing has been officially classified as a Line of Duty Death, honoring the service and commitment he gave throughout his career, despite being retired at the time of his passing.
