Sonya Thompson Munfordville, KY Obituary, Death: In Loving Memory of Sonya Thompson: Educator, Coach, and Community Mentor

Sonya Thompson, age 57, of Munfordville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Signature Health Care of Hart County. Her passing leaves a deep sense of loss among her family, friends, former students, and the community she faithfully served throughout her life.

Born to Sandra Kay Jaggers Thompson and the late Ralph Armond Thompson, Sonya was raised with strong values of faith, service, and compassion. She grew up attending Dorsey Chapel Methodist Church and, in recent years, became a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, where she continued to nurture her spiritual life.

Sonya devoted much of her life to education and mentorship. As a retired teacher in the Hart County School System, she played a meaningful role in shaping the lives of countless students. Beyond the classroom, she served as a girls’ basketball coach, where her leadership, encouragement, and commitment to excellence inspired many young athletes. Her dedication to sports and student development earned her the honor of being inducted into the 5th District Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, a recognition that reflects the lasting impact she made on her school and community.

Outside of her professional life, Sonya found great joy in traveling, spending time with friends, and caring for her beloved animals. She was known for her warm spirit, generous heart, and ability to make others feel welcomed and valued.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Brennen Thompson-Ross of Bowling Green, Kentucky; her loving mother, Sandra Kay Jaggers Thompson; her brother, Chip Thompson and his wife Lisa of Sedalia, Colorado; and her nephews, Benjamin Thompson and James Thompson. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will deeply miss her presence.

Sonya Thompson will be remembered for her dedication to education, her passion for mentoring young people, and the kindness she extended to all who knew her. Her legacy of compassion, service, and encouragement will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
