Tommy Horan Cause Of Death & Obituary: 1980 FA Trophy Winner and Former West Ham United Player Tommy Horan Dies Suddenly Aged 66

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of former player and proud member of the 1980 FA Trophy–winning side, Tommy Horan, who died suddenly at home yesterday morning at the age of 66.

Tommy grew up in Barking and was educated at St. Peter’s School in Dagenham before continuing his studies at Bishop Ward. His football journey began as an apprentice at West Ham United under the guidance of John Lyall, where he developed the qualities that would later define his career both on and off the pitch.

In 1978, Tommy joined Dagenham FC under manager Laurie Wilkinson and quickly became a valued member of the squad. He was part of the historic team that secured the FA Trophy at Wembley in 1980, defeating Mossley 2–1 in a memorable victory that remains one of the club’s proudest achievements. Tommy’s contribution to that success is fondly remembered by teammates, supporters, and everyone connected with the club.

Beyond his ability as a footballer, Tommy was widely regarded as one of the true gentlemen of the game. His humility, warmth, and respect for others left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He embodied the spirit of the club and carried himself with dignity throughout his life.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go to Tommy’s daughter, Charlotte, and his son, Sam, both familiar faces at Victoria Road. Sam is a loyal season ticket holder, and Charlotte attends matches whenever she visits London. We also extend our deepest sympathies to Tommy’s wider family and many friends during this incredibly difficult time.

Tommy Horan will be remembered not only for his role in one of the club’s greatest triumphs, but also for the kindness and character that defined him as a person. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May he rest in peace.
